Moments ago, the greatest distance runner of all time, Haile Gebrselassie, announced his retirement at a press conference in NYC. Report confirmed by Runners Word etc.

  3. what a damn good run he had. I love in the book "the greatest" how it talks how hard Tergat would train to beat him in the Olympics, but would fall short twice. Easily the greatest of all time.... Easssssy.

  4. UPDATE: Recent chatter indicates this event is a go. We've been given no indication that Geb is not coming to the CCRC tonight. My hunch is that if he were to cancel, it would have happened yesterday or, at the very least, late this morning. I am helping TOWPATH cover this event for the press pool and will be there circa 6pm.

  7. I guarantee that right now Haile is in hiding in his palace in Ethiopia, his latest tweet: Now it is time for me to think about a lot of things.I still love running. I will always run. Just give me some time to think things over

    I guarantee Haile will be running in the 2012 London Olympic Marathon.
