TODAY, OUR NEW RISING, BUT HUMBLE STAR AND MYSELF TACKLED THE C&O IN THE SNOW. WE MET AT 9:00AM AT THE FABLED G-TOWN STORE AND REALIZED QUICKLY ON THAT ALL OTHERS WERE STILL RECOVERING FROM HANGOVERS AND OTHER SUCH THINGS AND THUS, WE HIT THE TOWPATH ALONE AS THE SNOW BEGAN. WE RAN A SLOW FIRST 8 MILES, DURING WHICH, I MUST HAVE SEEN A HALF DOZEN LOCAL RUNNING ZEALOTS, WHO I KNOW, COME ZIPPING BY. I EVEN THINK I SAW THE BOYISH FACE OF PHILIPPE ROLLY AND HE WAS ROLLING(PROBABLY HOME TO HIS KIDS).
ALRIGHT, AT MILE 8 THE SNOW WAS HAMMERING DOWN AND WE DECIDED TO RUN BACK. OR, I SHOULD SAY, MATIAS DECIDED TO LAY DOWN THE LAW AND KILL IT. WE WERE RUNNING EASY 6:50s OR SO AND THEN MATIAS MOVED IT INTO HIGH GEAR AND PUSHED AHEAD. I DID MY BEST JUST TO KEEP HIM IN SIGHT AS WE DID THE LAST 8 IN 53/54 MINUTES FOR A TOTAL OF 1 hr. AND 55 MINUTES. CONSIDERING IT WAS SNOWING ANDTHE TERRAIN WAS HEAVY, WE DID A SERIOUS WORKOUT.
MATIAS SEEMS PRIMED TO DO WELL AT NATIONAL AS HE WAS MOVING WITHOUT MUCH EFFORT. I, ON THE OTHER HAND, HAVE A LOT MORE WORK TO DO-----------------M
Sorry I could not join you. I woke up with a nose full of blood - the last throws of my cold. I drank water all day and ran an easy 7.5 on a treadmill (while watching "Gone with the Wind") to round out a 50 mile week (5 days). I've now had 3 bad weeks of training in a row (skiing, snow, cold). I would've liked to up the ante a bit before the March races begin. I'll try and run a solid week of miles next week and then plateau for 3 weeks. Then I'll take an easy week before Cherry Blossom.
ReplyDeleteOn another note - it's great to see everyone either running (racing) well or on the rapid road to recovery. We should have a great corps of athletes come June/July. It's be nice to throw together a solid team at the 5 mile Rockville Twilighter (mid-July) and race some opposing teams.
Godspeed.
GONE WITH THE WIND ON THE TREADMILL. DON'T ENVY THAT
ReplyDeleteMax,
ReplyDeleteYou were loking better than you say when I saw you all...I could have decked him if that would have helped...
Max and Matias, great run. I echo Jake's comments. Things are really starting to come together. It looks like we will be ready to do something in the upcoming months.
ReplyDeleteGone With The Wind?
Jake,
ReplyDeleteI can tell you are a little disappointed with the last 3 weeks of your training, but try to resist the urge to go out and attempt to make up for the last 3 weeks. Just remember you have plenty of time till Cherry Blossom and Grandma's. Your training has been great so far, and now you should simply have a fresher pair of legs underneath you.
Gone With The Wind?
yeah, I 'm pretty jealous. I've been at 70-85 the last three weeks and am having the same results of you at 50. Whereas I don't think I can elevate my training much more in the near future, imagine how you'll be when you get some decent training.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'll steal from a GWTW quote I heard yesterday at mile 6.36 of my run...
ReplyDeleteInsert running/racing/injured when appropriate:
"As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again."
Begin Intermission.
Jake,
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel better, I now missed some time running myself. I have a stomach virus and that has kept me from running the last few days. Hopefully, I can start back up either tomorrow or Wednesday.
