While Jake and Co are running in Baltimore, I am doing a run on the canal with former DC running champion, Philippe Rolly and another great runner, Paul Rades. Back when most of you were in diapers, Philippe was winning races and beating the world. Time has passed and he is now old, like me. However, he still runs hard and wants to run 2:30 at the National Marathon. He might be doing a killer tempo on Sunday on tha canal at 7:45am. I will try and run with him for as long as i can. we will meet at the store and go from there. anyone who wants to come and try to hang, do their own thing, etc, can come.
While 7:45 is early, I would like to jump in this. how long and any target times?
ReplyDeleteMax, you sure know how to grab my attention. I might be interested depending on time/pace.
ReplyDeletethis will be a serious run. maybe 20 miles at 6:40 pace. i will try to run that fast but might go slower. Rolly is focusing on 2:30 time for National Marathon.
ReplyDeletehmm, I'm looking for something shorter and faster... 1.5 miles at 6:20 pace, then roll into 6:10, 6:05, 6:00, 5:55, 5:50,5:45, 5:45, 5:45, 5:45, 5:40, and then ease out for last 1.5 miles. I did an 11 mile version of this yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI am going up to NYC this weekend to celebrate an open bar that I won somehow at Bar East (1st and 90th). It is all-you-can-drink draft beer form 9-10, if anyone is in the city Sat. night, give me a ring (703) 507-7404. I am also doing a run with some guys from Colgate at Rockefeller state park. If anyone has ever run there, what is it like?
ReplyDeleteI will be in Boston the following weekend for St Pattys day. Therefore I may not see y'all 'till National. I suggest a team pasta dinner the night before. It can be at my place (Georgia Ave/the hood) or Bethesda, or wherever.
Georgia Ave? I'm over near Catholic U. (4th NE & Edgewood) I'd be down for a pasta dinner the night before national marathon at your place.
ReplyDeleteThe Havegoats plan sounds reasonable. I plan on showing up at 7:45 and make a game time decision on distance/pace but I'm currently leaning towards coach Havegoat's workout.
Hey Matias, I’m planning on trying for 6 min pace at National. From your half, nice BTW, it looks like you would be running around the same pace. Do you want to work together in the race, at least till our wheels come off?

Great idea. I might be able to convince my friend (who ran a smokin' fast 2:21 at Austin) to pace us through the first 18 miles or so. He said he's willing to pace until we make the turn up 23rd St towards Adams Morgan.
ReplyDeleteThis will be my first, so the plan is to go out easy. 6:10s for the first couple of miles, then slowly bring it down to 6min pace to mile 10. Depending on how I'm feeling at the 10 mile mark, I'd like to stay at 6min or experiment with 5:55s. Also plan on taking it easy through Adams Morgan, the climb looks nasty on the elevation profile. Don't want to blow up there. Once we get through Columbia Heights, start to crank it down 1st St. Treat the race like a twenty mile tempo with a 10K race.
I'll keep you posted on my friend's availability to pace a 2:37 group.
i think it is wise to run slow and get stronger. matias and dave, you have been running gazillions of miles and very focused. the only thing that will stop you from doing well is pre race jitters. have fun before the marathon. don't do anything like go to bed at 6 every night for a week and pray running gods, etc. i am a firm believer in "being in the moment" go with how you feel and be relaxed.
