Weekend Results: Track Meets & Road Races Galore, Trettel Club Record
GRC sent track crews to a variety of track meets and road races in the second weekend of April.
Highlights:
At the Crimson Tide Invite on Thursday, Lucas won the 5K at the Crimson Tide Invite in 14:19, a time good for 3rd on the GRC all-time list. Lucas will be racing at the Pittsburgh Half Marathon.
At Hopkins, Chelsie P finished 2nd in the 5K, and Alex Hinton won his section of the 800.
At Mason, Dan Trettel set a new club record, running 1:53.21 in the 800. Jackie had a big breakthrough in the 1500, and Gina did an excellent job pacing the women's 1500, coming through 1000 meters in 2:55, which would be a club record at that distance. Sarah Cook took over the #3 spot all time in her 800.
At the Rider Invite, Liz Tawa had her best performance of the year, taking 3rd in the 1500.
We also had some great distance performances at Bucknell, led by Emily D's big 10K PR. She had great pacing help from Maura Linde and set the #3 GRC all time mark in 34:30. This performance puts her in line to potentially make France's team in the Euro Cup 10K in London this summer. Kyle had a giant track PR for 10K, improving significantly on his time at Bucknell last year. Max and Sam both had strong runs at 5K.
In road action, Austin McGinley won the Pacers Friday Night Race in Crystal City in 16:11 as he prepares for a run at the Broad Street 10 Miler.
At the Monument 10K in Richmond, Molly Applegate led the way finishing in 7th for the women with a big PR of 36:40. She will run the New Jersey Half Marathon. Sean Barrett finished in 11th, leading the way for the men, followed by Cabell and Charlie. Sean is training for Broad Street, and Charlie will be running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon coming up.
At the Boston Marathon, our runners faced difficult humid, warm conditions. Zak Miller & Liz Reynolds had really strong training cycles and prepared very well, but smartly decided to pull the plug at miles 18 and 20 due to the conditions. Zak will look for redemption at the Jersey Marathon.
Chris Bain fought through the conditions and continued his Boston streak of 22 years, and ran another strong, consistent race, finishing in 2:43:36.
