BLAH

That was a great run this morning. Good group. Solid. We should offer that every saturday for all who want to join in the pain and joy. People can do whatever they want running wise. More about team running and getting the group together.

Just read an article on some runner from back in the day, Jerry Lindgren. Wacky---- If any of you want to run 350 miles in one week you can be like him. Check out the article.

Matt Ernst, you know deep down inside you are a die hard liberal who listens to Joan Baez in some secret place(its ok though as we all love you, still)

RUN ON SAT

We are doing a workout from the store this sat. the run starts at 9am. we will do some type of fartlek. I am thinking one mile warm up and then a 3 minute hard 1 off routine. We can repeat this 10 times. Solid workout that will make you stronger. Jim, Steve, Scott are on board. Others are more than welcome----------M

Weekend News

First, Joe Wiegner (Wiggy) got married on Saturday...Holly, who also posts here, is the bride. Congrats!

Christiam PR'd in the 5k...running 16:52 at a race in CT. Kudos!

Scott and I watched Max "dance up a storm" at FELIX in Adams Morgan on Saturday night. Like those two curmudgeons who sit in the balcony in The Muppet Show, Scott and I cackled and poked fun...but at least he was out there!

Max disobeyed my strict orders by racing again on Sunday. I am trying to convince him to race less and get healthy. I guess chatting to others after at races is too appealing.

Melissa also raced on Sunday.

Jason Dwyer returned to town yesterday from Duluth...by way of Canada.

I ran for the first time on Thursday and ran both days this weekend. Feeling better every day but I lack the "inner" strength I had pre-marathon. I plan to take it easy this week and next, then see if I can ramp up again.

WORLD OF MAX

DON'T YOU ALL LOVE TO BE HAPPY? MATT ERNST, WHERE IS IT MAN?

LAST NIGHT WENT TO FELIX AND DANCED WITH BEATIFUL WOMEN UNTIL.....MMMMM...I REALLY DO NOT REMEMBER. AT SOME POINT I REMEMBER SEEING KLIM AND MUNRO LINGERING. GOT HOME IN THE WEE MORNING HRS WITH NOT IN INKLING OF SLEEP IN ME---WATCHED THE SUN EMERGE AND THEN GOT IN THE AUTO AND HEADED TO COLUMBIA FOR A 5K. WITH THE ENERGY OF GOOD TIMES FLOWING IN THE BLOOD, CRANKED OUT A 17 MINUTE 5K. NOT BAD CONSIDERING VERY LITTLE REST OR PREP.

FYI---LOW AND BEHOLD MELISSA TANNER WAS LURKING AT THE STARTING LINE AND IT WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISE.

NO MORE PAIN, IS THE GOOD NEWS. THE LEGS ARE SOLID SO ITS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I AM AT FULL STRENGTH.

TAKE CARE ALL AND LIVE IT TO THE FULLEST(SAFELY)-----------M

Barking Dog - 8:30pm Friday

The Barking Dog is as friendly neighborhood tavern located in the heart of busy Bethesda, Maryland. We are located just 1.5 blocks from Metro and close to many Parking facilities.

Hand carved mahogany, mirrors and brass set the first floor while a large lounge area with dance floor and bar define the upper floor. "The Dog" is a great place to relax after work, after a game or view sporting events on one of eleven TVs featuring two big screens. Our most popular times are $3 beer and $5 burger nights, weedends with DJ's in the lounge and Thursday night karaoke.

There are party facilities for groups from 25 - 300 guests. Lunch is served Monday thru Friday, full menu served 'till 11:00 pm and late night menu until we close. Ask your server or bartender about our daily food and drink specials.

The Barking Dog's friendly staff and guests will be sure that your visit is a great one. You can also visit our my space webpage. "See 'ya at The Dog!"

Here is the link to young Centrowitz's heroic 2 mile race the other day. Maybe we can look into getting senior to provide some coaching.

Grandma's early reports

Jake ran a 2:42:30 marathon debut, a solid time considering the adverse conditions (I learned it was really hot in Duluth today and the course was not shaded at all). Apparently many were casualties to these conditions, but I'll defer the reports to those who were there.

TRAINING

Went out yesterday with Ben and a couple of fellas on the canal. Did one mile repeats with a young lad from GW. 4 miles at 5:40 pace. Not bad but the hamstring tightened up after and I needed to walk. Interesting, i can go all out with no pain but when i stop and try to jog, the leg tightens up. Any advice from the choir?

WORKOUT ON TUES

I am meeting at the G-town Store tomorrow at 6 for a workout. It will either be on the canal(fartlek) or the track near the store. Ben is running it as are some others. I need to get the speed back and am tired of being hurt and slow.

all abilities are welcome. this is an opportunity for you as an individual runner to improve for YOU. I spent last summer chasing Wilson and Chris and it really paid off.

Much love---------M

5 Days...

"No one can truly experience the charm of repose unless he has first undergone severe exertion"

- David Livingstone in 1865 who trekked across 1 million miles of the African heartland. Along his journeys he was abandoned by his entire search teams at least 5 times and went forward alone, was attacked and beaten and robbed scores of times, fainted due to near starvation and dehydration numerous times, survived a lion attack that left his arm permanently crippled and survived numerous bouts of malaria, smallpox, dysentery and numerous fevers.

RACE REPORT

After spending this previous week with my dearest mama in Boston as she recovers from Breast Cancer treatment(a real fight), i had no idea what to expect as i had done no running while in Beantown.

As usual though, i felt fine to do the run and offered to pace team-mate Susanna Kvashnicka so that she might win. Prior to the race, I met up with Scott Munro, Megan, Laura Turner, Matt Earnst and others. We were poised to run well as a team. At this stage of the game, i suppose I enjoy the team spirit and social aspects of the running scene more than anything. You get up early, a little hungover, perhaps, and then get your workout done before 9:00am. not bad.

We lined up and boom, the gun went off. I started off slow and then caught up with Susanna and this other young lady, who, at the time, was a mystery to me. We ran the first 5k in 17:20 and I pushed it a bit and kept moving. When I turned my shoulder it was not Susanna but this other woman, who I later found out is Vanessa Hunter. At the 5 mile mark Vanessa pushed ahead and Vanessa had opened up a bit of a lead. Alas, she is in great shape and pulled away for the victory. Susanna and I came in 30 seconds later.

All in good spirits as I found out Vanessa is also part of the G-town running company team.

It was blistering hot out there so I am happy to be done with it.

Noteworthy post race chatter: After the race I talked with two of the most prolific American Marathoners of the last 20 years, Kieth Dowling and John Tuttle. Kieth has run 2:13 for the marathon and was the first American at Boston a few years ago. Tuttle was on the 84 olympic marathon team and is one of the best Masters runners in the country. Both are really nice guys and have lots of wisdom to impart upon the youth.
