Weekend Runs

On Saturday I can do a 12 mile easy run from the store that's mostly soft surface and rolling terrain. (no, no- not TR island)

On Sunday I will go 20 easy and am game for wherever folks want to go... perhaps the line and then the pancake house in bethesda afterwards?

I have to work this weekend.

I am trying to meet PReaves for a workout on Saturday (early afternoon). Details to come.

Sunday, I need to run longer around 5 or 6pm. Any takers?

How about the Glover-Archibald RCP loop for saturday morning? I'd be game for that.

Sunday I can do 5pm, now that's a good starting time :)

Jason,
I am taking the CC kids to Mercersburg this Sat, and have a CC invite every Sat for the next 5 weekends. However I am in for Sunday, though my easy pace and your easy pace probably differ by about :30/mile right now.

BTW, I am up for doing an endless island long run though RCP might be more pleasant.

Jake,
I need a workout on Sat, but won't be back from PA until 3:30pm What time are you guys getting started?

Sunday at 5:00 would be perfect. P. Murphy and I talked about getting in a long run then.

I'm hoping for 22-23 on Sunday, so if no one else wants to go that far (other than Jason?), I can start a little early.

Okay, so Glover to Rock Creek Saturday. easy. leave from the store at 8:30. I don't have keys, so don't plan on it being open. It should be open when we're done.

Peter- what time and where on Sunday. My easy pace is 6:45-7 flat, but I'm happy with 7:15.

Jason, +/-7:00 is my pace right now so I think we should be compatible. I am just remembering the 18 mile point-to point run the day you had to get to work and we opened it up with a couple of 6:15 miles.

I'd like to start between 7:30am-8am. I'm not looking for a big Klim style Sunday expedition so maybe we could do towpath or island to just get the 20 over with quick.

A wise man once told me: "long slow distance is good, but not as good as long fast distance". Up for debate I guess. I am a fan of go as you "feel".

Per the potential inclement weather this weekend, I may be off the hook with work on Sunday and may run earlier than 5pm...we will see.

Either way, I will run with one of the groups.

If the early long run is close by, I wouldn't mind hopping in for a 12 or so of it.

Peter said...

Long fast is better than long slow, except if you have 5 X 1000 @ VO2max the next day.

Peter - are you saying you want to fight me?

Melissa said...

Haha.

I'm doing a 4 miler at BWI on Sunday for fun. I may join the store run on Saturday but am not positive.

Why follow the long day with a workout?

Diego said...

Im also in for the long run on sunday, if there is a way I can meet you guys by metro. Like Billy I wouldnt like to do more than 12 or 13 miles if thats possible.

If the long run happens later (5p or 6p) on Sunday count me in. I've got to work all day Saturday and Sunday for most of the day.

Peter said...

Just tell me the place and time Klim.

In an ideal world I would not follow the long run with a workout but Monday is when my HS has AU track reserved. I pace our #1 and I don't set the workout schedule.

Patrick and, uh... Patrick...

I'll be running at 5ish no matter what on Sunday. Assuming Patrick #1 is still on for a looooong run at the same time, let's plan on Patricks #1-3 et. al. meeting at The Line at 5pm.

Hey Murray... you in?

PR said...

Sounds good to me for 5:00 at the Line...I am still going to start an hour early to get the long, long run in.

I wonder if Senator Leahy is in the neighborhood?

PR - any chance you may want to use your real name, "John"?

Peter and Billy, why don't we meet at the island and we'll start with Mt. vernon, cross over to the tidal basin, loop around it with an extension around the mall, come back up the waterfront, cross key bridge, that should be 11.5-12 miles. Billy can then go home, and we can throw down 8 or so miles on the island. 8am sounds lovely.

In terms of what speed is best for long runs. I gather mixing it up is the wisest for marathoners. Sometimes throwing down sustained surges for 45 minutes, rest a half hour and then surge again. Sometimes drop Marathon pace, and sometimes just slow. considering the half marathon last weekend and that I will do a workout on wed, this weekend will be slow. I think I'm pretty close to goal pace fitness, so just looking to maintain.

Jason - you are spot on with long runs.

IMO - long runs should be run at various paces. The important thing is getting them in. Sometimes it means dog slow other times it means throwing in the aforementioned surges.

I, personally, like to run one long run in which (over) 50% is run at marathon pace. This prepares me mentally for the anquish that is also known as a marathon.

The MP long run is a definate- that will be the last significant effort. but, I'm still a few weeks out from race/taper.

I'll want some help for that, so people better not get out of comission/ better get back into comission.

Island at 8am works for me.

Where's "The Line?"

PH (Patrick #3?)

The Line is here:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=2600+Beach+Drive+DC&sll=38.986884,-77.052172&sspn=0.003553,0.009656&ie=UTF8&ll=38.987935,-77.052848&spn=0.007105,0.019312&z=16&iwloc=addr

Did anyone know The Line has an address? It's 2600 Beach Drive. Who'd a thunk it.

Island group: Due to inclement weather, I will be traveling to the island via metro rail rather than bike. This means I will likely arrive after 8am, but I will meet up with you on the island when you finish your loops of the tidal basin and mall. I will run some Dwyer loops until you arrive back.

I'm so sorry, I can't make the run in... 30 minutes. I'm still at work. It's been crazy here. Ugh. Sorry again, hopefully I'll see you guys soon.
