Just in case this got buried below...
For any of you that might be interested, Klim and I are running a tempo run with Pacers' Steve Crane on Saturday morning (2/2) at 9:30.

The venue is Buddy Attick Lake in Greenbelt, MD--right off of the Beltway. The lake has a 2k (2,040 meters, actually), soft-surface loop that's similar to the towpath but with some small notable hills thrown into the mix.
I think the plan is to run at least 4 laps, though some may go as far as 7 laps. Everything will be marked: the 400m, 1k, and mile for those who like to keep splits.
This is the same place where I used to run my tempo runs and XC workouts in college. We'll meet in the adjacent parking lot to warm-up.

sounds fun. i will try it
I'm coming to DC for a conference March 6-9 and need to do an 18 mile run on that Saturday as part of my marathon training. I was wondering if you could give me any routes or trails I could try. I'm staying at the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel. You can contact me via email: dalebakerdrummer (at) gmail (dot) com. I run about a 10 - 11 minute mile pace...Thanks for your help.
Dale. You're right over Rock Creek Park- which has tons of trails. Head to Calvert St bridge, you should find a way to dip down into the park. You're slightly in the middle of the park... you could loop down to the "mall" (monumnets)from the park.
I would just explore. its hard to explain the trails.
I lived in College Park for years and never ran there - I think I had heard of it/seen the sign or something. I didn't even know that's where it was. Looks like a nice little venue. In the Dan Rincon days all our workouts were done on the President's Lawn or the golf course.
do you guys think it is wise to run hard too days in a row?
I don't like to run hard two days in a row...but it depends how hard/far you go and what you've got planned on the third day...and fourth day.
I don't think it's wise to run two hard days in a row, which is why I'll probably make Sunday's run long and easy/moderate. So, it'll be more like Saturday hard, Sunday moderate, Monday recovery.
That being said, I'm the same idiot who ran workouts 3 of 4 days just two weeks ago. I paid for it--it took me three days to recover from that.
Yea, I used to try and muscle through hard day after hard day and eventually died. I never had recovery days and it really killed me. I do not think I have recovered since I did the National Marathon, the GW10-miler, The Boston Marathon and the Cherry Blossom, all in a 2 month period. Lesson is.........don't be dumb.
peace out
How did this go? No recap? Comeon.
We had a few people run from the store this morning. about 6 people. I went 8 miles and the reat of the guys went 10. Pace was around 7 min per mile. Felt like a tempo for me.
Bert Rodriguez, Steve Crane, Patrick Reaves, Me, Chris Bain and Max...no last name needed...Lockwood.
We w/u for two 2040m loops and then began the workout. Crane, Me and Bert ran 5:20 pace for 4 loops (or 5.1 miles). Crane continued for one extra loop (6.4). Reaves, Bain and Lockwood followed in that order for an extra loop.
A solid workout and a 11.5 mile day.
