Philippe Rolly Wins 50 Miler

Last weekend Philippe ran the North Face Challenge 50 Miler in Wisconsin and won in just over 7 hours...and, in doing so, qualified for the North Face Challenge final on December 6th in San Francisco.

Congratulations! I don't think I'm tough enough to run a 50 miler, much less win one!

Well done. A few times during the fall while out on long runs, I have seen Philippe speeding along the towpath, 2 water bottles in hand, training for the 50 miler.

This utilization of the towpath is clearly a crucial factor in his success.

I am the only one old enough who remembers training with Rolly on the towpath way back when on 20 mile tempo runs. Hammering away until we dropped off one by one until only Rolly scampered along. We used to meet him up at AU track on hot summer mornings and do these grueling workouts and like canal, we died off one by one.

Its all the more impressive that he still runs so well considering he has 3 or 4 kids in tow.

A lesson to us all.
